Position Overview

John Calhoun Electric is looking for an experienced electrician with strong construction experience and mechanical aptitude. The work includes installation, alteration, additions, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, conductors, equipment, and associated materials in residential and commercial environments. Ideal candidates have experience with both higher-voltage commercial or construction work and residential electrical systems. Projects may range from apartments, condominiums, renovations, and commercial construction to smaller residential and commercial service work. This is an experienced position and is not an entry-level opening.

What You'll Do

Electrical Installation & Construction

Perform electrical work with minimal supervision.
Read and work from blueprints, drawings, and electrical prints.
Install and terminate cable and feeders.
Install and troubleshoot control wiring.
Perform underground electrical layout and rough-in.
Install and terminate switchgear and electrical devices.
Prepare layouts for electrical equipment installation.

Conduit, Wiring & Equipment

Select appropriate wire and conduit sizes.
Bend conduit using hand benders.
Use saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, knockout punches, and similar equipment.

Troubleshooting

Troubleshoot motors and controls.
Diagnose electrical issues.
Use drawings and prints to identify and resolve problems.

Code & Safety

Understand electrical theory.
Apply NFPA 70 National Electrical Code requirements.
Follow established safe-work practices.
Use required personal protective equipment.

Experience & Requirements

Trade Experience

Experienced electrician capable of working with minimal supervision.
Strong construction experience and mechanical aptitude.
Experience with residential and commercial electrical systems.
Experience reading blueprints and electrical drawings.
Knowledge of wire and conduit sizing.
Experience installing and terminating switchgear and devices.
Experience with feeders, control wiring, motors, and controls.
Understanding of electrical theory and NFPA 70 National Electrical Code.

Driving & Equipment

Valid driver's license.
Reliable transportation.
Ability to operate company trucks with manual and automatic transmissions.
Ability to operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts.

Personal Tools

Employees are expected to have the personal tools required for their work with them while on the job.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Job-Site Conditions

Work may be performed in heat, cold, rain, snow, and other outdoor conditions.
Construction-site sanitary facilities may be used.
Work may occur in switchgear rooms, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, and other restricted spaces.
Required PPE may include hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, and other protective equipment.

Heights

Must be comfortable working from ladders.
Work may be performed from scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and similar elevated areas.
Work may occur at heights up to approximately 90 feet.
Must be able to safely carry and reposition ladders as required.

Physical Activity

Ability to lift approximately 51 pounds.
Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
Ability to occasionally perform overhead work for extended periods.

Schedule

Employment: Full-time
Days: Monday through Friday
Shift: Day shift
Length: 8-hour or 10-hour shifts depending on project needs
Overtime may be required.
Rare overnight stays may occasionally be discussed.

$17.00–$35.00per hour DOE
Pay depends on experience and qualifications.
